Welcome to Waldo County Head Start!

Waldo County Head Start has been a program for preschool children and their families in Waldo County since 1965.  In November of 2004, the program was distinguished with an award of excellence by the New England Region I Administration for Children and Famillies.

Head Start offers a variety of programs for low-income families to participate in, such as education, health care, and the social and emotional growth of their children. 
For three and four year old children there are Head Start sites in:
  • Belfast
  • Searsport
  • Unity
For four year old children there are Pre-K programs at:
  • Belfast Head Start, Belfast
  • Ames School, Searsmont
  • Unity Elementary School, Unity
  • Leroy Smith School, Winterport
  • Morse Memorial School, Brooks

Collaboration with other child care centers and Home Start Homes offers the option of full day care to children in Montville, Waldo, Belfast, Unity, and Stockton Springs.

Head Start Transportation

You may have seen our little yellow buses around Waldo County.  Although Waldo County Head Start cannot guarantee transportation, we do have bus routes which are determined based on individual needs and planned at the start of each program year.  Your child's teacher will discuss transportation options with you at the beginning of the program year.
